Locust beans are pods of either the Mediterranean carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua) or the African locust bean (Parkia filicoidea). The pod consists of a woody husk that is sweet and palatable to rabbits and contains hard shiny beans. The beans are used for the manufacture of gums and oils in the cosmetic industry.
